The most important prerequisite for students wishing to enroll in
a university is the mastery of the Japanese language. Mere conversational
proficiency is not sufficient; university study will require the ability
to listen to, participate in and understand lectures and seminars,
the ability to read and understand all required texts and reference
materials, and the ability to comprehensively write reports, compositions
and dissertations in Japanese. Furthermore, many universities now
require as an application prerequisite the “Examination for Japanese
University Admission for International Students” administered by the
Association of International Education, Japan (AIEJ). The Japanese
language program at KICL is designed to fulfill the needs of students
considering options such as these, and students are encouraged to
master the Japanese language while studying at KICL to a level that
will enable them to easily satisfy all requirements and succeed at
whatever endeavors they will be engaged in.
Students planning to enroll in a university after completing their
linguistic studies should give consideration to purpose and period
of study when choosing a school. KICL has a special orientation for
those students planning to enroll in a university, as well as private,
individual consultation services.
Preparatory classes specifically for the General Examination for Foreign
Students in the areas of “mathematics”, “physics”, “chemistry” and
“general studies” are available at KICL.
For students hoping to continue their studies at a university in art
and design related fields, we offer a “Basic Art Class”, a course
made possible through the comprehensive cooperation of Kyoto University
of Art and Design.
KICL has a special admissions recommendation program for sister school,
Kyoto University of Art and Design, and also for many other private
universities in Kansai area.

Class level will be decided by the student’s working
knowledge of Japanese. Evaluation for each term will be synthetically
based on the score of tests, which are given regularly in the
class during the term, individual student class work and attendance.
If a student’ test score and/or attendance record are not good
enough to promote to the next level, subsequent enrollment may
not be permitted. |
